Champ is a young Pit Bull who was found by a Good Samaritan after an unfortunate encounter with a car. His wounds are healing, but now he needs a forever home. He gets along well with kids, adults, dogs and cats. Everyone who meets Champ falls in love with this sweet boy. If you are interested in meeting Champ and possibly adding this survivor to your family, please contact his foster mom at: Gonetomaui@aol.com
Meet Cessna
Cessna Female

With some guidance and love, Cessna will surely be a wonderful companion pet.

Dogs with Expensive Taste – One Swallows $10,000 Worth of Diamonds- The Other Swallows a Diamond Worth $20,000!
I would first like to say that both dogs in this story are okay.
I always thought that diamonds…were a girl’s best friend! Not any more, apparently dogs have taken a liking to them!
In Albany, Georgia a dog named Honey Bun, had a special attraction to the sparking little gems, or at least a curiosity that got him in a lot of trouble. He consumed close to $10,000 worth of diamonds.
The co-owner of John Ross jewelers Cuck Roberts says, “he’s a staple of the jewelry store, but this appears to be the first time he's dined on the gems.”
Roberts got up from his chair to greet a customer when one of the four packs of diamonds (each containing about $10,000 in loose 1-karat diamonds for earrings) on his desk went missing. Upon finding an empty pack on the floor, the shop owner immediately had a suspect.
X-rays later confirmed Honey Bun's guilt. While carbon doesn't show through on an x-ray, two blank spots made him the likely culprit
The diamonds were cleaned up and sent back to the supplier, while the dog seemed unfazed by the incident. Roberts is now a bit more cautious about where he leaves his chair.
Now, Honey Bun isn’t the only diamond stealing dog. In January 2010, at Robert Bernard Jewelers, in Rockville, Maryland, Sollie, a golden retriever swallowed a $20,000 3-karat diamond after it was simply dropped on the floor in a jewelry store.
George Kaufmann brings his dog Sollie to his store, every day. On the evening of January 26, Kaufmann and his business partner, Robert Rosin, were meeting with a diamond dealer and were taking a look at a 3-carat stone when it fell on the floor right next to Sollie. The men watched in horror as Sollie ate it.
The men quickly called a veterinarian to find out what they should do to retrieve the diamond.
The doctor said nature would have to take its course, so for three days Kaufmann walked Sollie hoping to find the gem in Sollie's stool.
"When we took a walk in the morning and evening I collected and went through everything. It wasn't glamorous, but you gotta do what you gotta do," said Kaufmann.
Please read the ASPCA's Animal Poison Control FAQ to learn about what to do if your pet ingests something harmful.

Animal Hoarding – What Do You Think?
I am not an expert on this subject. All of the views below come from other sources. I would like to know what you think about Animal Hoarding.
The Humane Society of the United States says:
What is an animal hoarder?
An animal hoarder is a person who amasses more animals than he/she can properly care for. Such individuals generally fail to recognize or refuse to acknowledge when the animals in their custody become victims of gross neglect. Animal hoarders are sometimes referred to as animal "collectors" or animal "addicts."
Please read their FACT SHEET
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) says:
What Is Animal Hoarding?
Animal hoarding is a complex and intricate public health and community issue. Its effects are far-reaching and encompass mental health, animal welfare and public safety concerns.
Please read their article on: ANIMAL HOARDING

Friendship Hospital for Animals – Pays Dog’s Medical Bill for U.S. Marine Who Returned from Afghanistan
A car accidentally hit the dog, who was then rushed the Friendship Hospital for Animals, in Washington, DC.
"I felt horrible because he was in so much pain. I can't imagine," said the dog’s owner Laurie Sheik. "We think that somebody, one of the workers must have left the gate open."
The dog’s hind leg was caught under a car and dragged. Some of his ligaments were sheared away with the bone. Now a metal fixator http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/fixator is supporting his ankle.
The medical bills including surgery and aftercare run nearly $10,000.
“I was trying to figure out... I was working trying to figure out how I was going to manage to cover it without putting myself in absolute horrible financial position,” Sheik said.
The Friendship Hospital for Animals decided to pay the bill through its donation fund.
Sheik looks forward to getting Moose back. She said her dog loves to swim and is insane for fetch.
Thank you Friendship Hospital for Animals, for taking care of those who protect us!

Just For Kids - A Reminder to Always be Kind to Animals! (Pictures to Color)
This blog is just for kids! A reminder that they should always be kind to animals. Remind your kids to never go near an injured animal, and if they see one, to go and get an adult. Also remind them that if they see someone with a dog on a leash, to never run up to them, but to always ask if it is okay to pet the dog. Most importantly, teach them to always be kind to animals!
Below are some pictures that you can print out for them to color. (Just click on the picture to print). Make sure your printer is set on "Landscape", and that your margins are all set to "0". Print out the award at the bottom and fill in the information for them. There are 2-3 images on each page. The pictures will come out on 8"x10" paper. Have fun!

Dog Mourns the Death of Navy SEAL at Funeral – The Bond Between a Man and His Best Friend
I felt the need to share this heart-breaking story with you:
It is said, that a dog is a man's best friend, and for Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson, 35, and his beloved and loyal dog Hawkeye, not even death could break this powerful bond.
Navy SEAL Jon Tomlinson, was one of 38 killed in Afghanistan on August 6th when a rocket-propelled grenade took out a U.S. Chinook helicopter.
He was mourned at a service in Rockford, Iowa, attended by 1,500 family members and friends, and Tomlinson's loyal canine companion, Hawkeye.
The heart-breaking photo above was taken by Tomlinson's cousin and posted on Facebook, where it quickly went viral. She wrote on her Facebook page, "To say that he was an amazing man doesn't do him justice. The loss of Jon to his family, military family, and friends is immeasurable."
His Labrador retriever was such an important part of his life that the San Diego resident called his dog "son."
In a statement, Tumilson's family said that he "died living his dream as a Navy SEAL."
"Jon was a Navy SEAL and he was proud to die this way for his country, and for the people he loved so much," his family wrote. "We respect the nature of their jobs and the need to protect these men and women so they can continue to serve our nation; therefore, we will not provide details of Jon's military service."
Hawkeye is being cared for by a friend of Tumilson's.
The video clip of the mourning dog seen here has already received more than 113,000 views.

First There Was Patrick – Now There is Caley – Please Donate to Help Save This Dog’s Life
Florida Boxer Rescue got an email about a skinny dog. When our volunteer arrived she was shocked and stunned by the shape this poor girl was in.
At the time Caley didn't have a name. She barely looked at you. Not because she was afraid or mean, but because she didn't have the strength to lift her head.
We knew Caley would need to have veterinary attention so we pulled her and took her immediately to one of our Partner Vets. Even our vet was shocked by her condition. She is anemic from all the fleas crawling on her and she is certainly malnourished. They're running some tests to figure out if there is any reason Caley should be this thin. These tests and keeping her on fluids will cost some money so any amount you can spare will be so appreciated. We'll update you as we know more.
If you would like to make a donation to help Caley, Just click on the heart below to be taken to the chip-in page. Make your donation in the box on the right.
Remember Patrick, the dog that was starved and thrown down a garbage chute.
You can read his story here: Patrick
Here is a before and after picture of Patrick.
This picture of Caley was taken at the shelter the day before she was pulled her. It is a picture of her sweet face.
May God bless all of you that donate for this little girl.

The American Humane Association Red Star Rescue Rig – Rescuing Shelter Animals from Hurricane Irene
As an animal lover, I have really been concerned not only about people, but about animal safety with the pending hurricane coming.
Someone posted on my face book page that the American Humane Association had a rescue rig going around rescuing animals from shelters.
I had never heard of them, but after visiting their website…I will never forget them, and
the wonderful job that they are doing in protecting children, pets and farm animals from abuse and neglect.
What they do:
Since 1877 the historic American Humane Association has been at the forefront of every major advancement in protecting children, pets and farm animals from abuse and neglect. Today we’re also leading the way in understanding human-animal interaction and its role in society.
As the nation’s voice for the protection of children and animals, American Humane Association reaches millions of people every day through groundbreaking research, education, training and services that span a wide network of organizations, agencies and businesses.
Hurricane Irene appears headed for North Carolina, and so is their Red Star™ Rescue Rig and Animal Emergency Services team. The Rescue Rig is on the road, and 21 of their first-responders will fly into Raleigh Saturday morning to help rescue and shelter animal victims.
This is the last disaster update that I read: Our Red Star™ Rescue Rig is on the last leg of its long trip. It will arrive in North Carolina this afternoon, standing by to rescue and shelter animals from Hurricane Irene.
You can visit their website at: American Humane Association
You can subscribe to their Youtube Channel HERE.
Thank you American Humane Association for all that you do!
